Professor Tony Ireland and his colleagues have been awarded £25,548.88, to carry out a national audit into the application of orthognathic acceptance criteria. The British Orthodontic Society still has £25,000 to fund national audit projects. Well conducted national audits are particularly valuable to our specialty as they encourage us to reflect on our practice and compare it to national/international benchmarks. It is also part of the process of professional lifelong learning and has
increasingly become a contractual requirement. The long-term nature of orthodontic care and the fact that many clinicians work in relative isolation challenges us to devise meaningful projects in both primary and secondary care environments. These require co-operation across the membership groups and the country. Many local
and regional projects will lend themselves to national or web-based projects from which we can all benefit. All potential audit topics will be considered. Audit topics assessing national outcomes and multidisciplinary care (such as orthognathic treatment) will be given priority. The application form to apply for funding is below.
Applications need to be submitted by the 28 July 2017 and successful applicants will be notified by the end of August 2017.
