Chair

Dr Helen Travess


Helen is a Consultant Orthodontist and Clinical Lead at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust. She is a past TGG secretary and Chair, and more recently was elected to the COG committee with the role of Symposium organiser for both London and Liverpool. She has returned to the COG Committee having been elected as Chair in 2019. 

 

Helen is a member of the Faculty of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh for MOrth, Chair of the High Wycombe BDA Branch, Hospital representative to Buckinghamshire LDC and previous chair of Buckinghamshire MCN, and committee member of Thames Valley MCN. She is educational and clinical supervisor to StRs in Orthodontics.

Dr Amelia Jerreat



Amelia Jerreat was appointed to her current position as an Orthodontic Consultant at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in 2007. She underwent orthodontic specialty training at Eastman Dental Institute from 2000 – 2003 and was awarded an MSc in Orthodontics followed by Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, Edinburgh. Following further training at Cardiff University and Morriston Hospital, Wales she completed her Fellowship in Orthodontics in 2007. Amelia’s main interest is in teaching and is currently Educational Supervisor for their current trainee and TPD for the Post CCST trainees in the South West. Within the BOS she has held the role of Chair of the Publications Committee as well as a previous member of the COG committee.

Dr Pamela Ellis 


Pamela is a Consultant Orthodontist and Clinical Lead at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. She trained in Manchester and Sheffield before taking up her Consultant post in Dorset over 16 years ago. She is actively involved in training and is the Associate Dean for Speciality Training in the South West. Pamela is an examiner both for the MOrth and ISFE exams and is the lead examiner for the new MOrth written paper at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

 

Pamela is a past TGG committee member and has also previously served as Treasurer for the Research Directorate.

Dr Farnaz Parvizi


BDS, FDS RCS (Eng), MOrth RCS (Edin), MPHIL, FDSOrth RCS (Eng), MSc

Following her postgraduate studies, Farnaz became a specialist orthodontic practitioner. This was then followed by a post as a specialist practitioner in an orthodontic practice in Melbourne, Australia. On her return to the UK in 2008, she entered the post CCT position at Bristol Dental Hospital and Musgrove Park, Taunton as a Senior Specialist Registrar. She is currently consultant orthodontist at the Royal United Hospitals, Bath.

Dr Simon Watkinson 
BDS, DDS, MFDS RCS(Ed), MOrth RCS(Ed), FDS(Orth) RCS(Ed)

   

Simon Watkinson undertook his undergraduate training at the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. He then undertook a number of training jobs prior to his specialist training in Liverpool. He completed his Consultant training in Manchester.

He is now a Consultant Orthodontist at both East Lancashire NHS Trust and Manchester Foundation Trust. He is also an Honorary Lecturer at Manchester University and supervisor for the University of Central Lancashire. Simon’s main area of clinical interest is in the treatment of patients requiring orthognathic surgery, those with hypodontia and those with impacted teeth. His main research interest is in early intervention for patients with a Class III malocclusion.

Simon is also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh

Dr Spencer Nute 


Spencer has worked as a consultant and clinical lead at Southend and Basildon Hospitals in Essex since 2000. He also works in two private specialist practices. He has been an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is an examiner for Queen Mary University of London. He has worked on numerous BOS committees, works on a number of local dental and orthodontic committees and has been TPD for the East of England.

Professor Jonathan Sandler 

  Jonathan has been a Consultant Orthodontist at Chesterfield Royal Hospital for nearly 25 years and in that time built up an international reputation as a teacher, researcher and clinician.  He has been directly involved in many RCTs, into both growth modification and the use of osseointegrated implants and TADs. He has authored and co-authored many book chapters, and over 120 clinical and scientific papers.

As the Chairman of the International Committee of the British Orthodontic Society, he represents the BOS at the European Federation of Orthodontic Societies' annual meetings. Jonathan is one of three UK diplomates of the European Board of Orthodontics and has been a European Board of Orthodontics examiner for the past 5 years. Jonathan is currently half way through his Presidency of the 'Angle Society of Europe'.

His highest profile role to date for the BOS was as Chairman of the organising committee of the 8th World Orthodontic Conference 2015, a task which involved 8 years of planning.

Andrew DiBiase

  Andrew DiBiase is a Consultant Orthodontist at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. He undertook his undergraduate training at Kings College, London; his postgraduate training at the Royal London Hospital and Senior Registrar training at the Charles Clifford Dental School, Sheffield.
 
Since his appointment as a Consultant he has developed an extensive research portfolio, is part of the UK Orthodontic National Clinic Trials Network and has received numerous awards and grants. His research interests include the clinical effectiveness of appliances and the psychosocial impact of malocclusion. He has published over 65 papers in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored two textbooks, including the Handbook of Orthodontics. Andrew also runs a successful private practice and has lectured internationally.
 
He has been awarded the Maurice Berman Prize for Clinical Excellence by the British Orthodontic Society and the Dewel Clinical Research Award by the American Association of Orthodontists. He is a provisional member of the Angle Society of Europe.

Farooq Ahmed

  Farooq gained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Honours from the University of Manchester in 2009, and entered specialised training in orthodontics in 2012 at the University of Manchester Dental Hospital and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. He continued his training as post CCST at the Royal London Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital from 2015-2017.

He now works as an orthodontic consultant at Guys' & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and Northwick Park Hospital.. His special interest include combining orthodontics with restorative dentistry and orthognathic patient treatment. He also engages in teaching and training with lectures to undergraduate and postgraduates.

Paul Sharma 

   Paul Sharma is a Consultant in Orthodontics and Clinical lead at Victoria and Queen Margaret Hospitals in Fife.

He completed Specialist Registrar training in Orthodontics at The Edinburgh Dental Institute and Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy and obtained The Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2011.

This was followed by Post-CCST training at King's College, Whipps Cross and St Thomas' Hospitals and he obtained the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Examination in Orthodontics from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2014.

Paul is an examiner for The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and his interests include teaching, cleft lip and palate and orthognathic treatment.

Stuart Yeaton 

 

The role of the TGG Chair is primarily to represent the views of, and advocate for, Orthodontic trainees within the society, as well as coordinating TGG activity. They will chair 3 TGG meetings and an AGM, and lead on 4-5 national study days each year. The Chair also attends the BOS Group Chairs Forum and Consultant Orthodontic Group meetings.
